Biography

Fredrick Dunkley

Fred Dunkley had a dark completion with blue eyes, brown hair, and was 5´´6. He was the next of kin to Elizabeth Dunkley who was a widow. He was born in Chat ford England and moved to Peterborough Ontario into 135 Romaine St with his mother Elizabeth. Fred Dunkley enlisted on March, 24, 1915 at the age of 35. He had four years of prior military experience, and he agreed to serve for 6 months. Fredrick was cleared for service on August, 24, 1915 and he departed to war.  He left his job as a carriage builder to serve for the army in the 59th Battalion. He served for the entire 6 months and partook in the battle of  The Somme. During his battles he got a gunshot wound on his right arm and his right shoulder. Fredrick was discharged on February, 22, 1916. Although he served for his full 6 months he  sadly died two days after his time serving was over. He died of infection in his gun shot wounds. He received a medal of courage and was buried in Little Lake Cemetery in Peterborough Ontario. He was displayed in the Memorial Chamber Of Peace on page 548 on November 22.
